Slàinte! The phrase meaning good health invites all willing to raise a glass and toast in the Gaelic tongue at the Highland Stillhouse. Owners Tammy and Mick Secor are amazingly friendly and welcoming. They are rarely gone from the establishment and encourage customers to feel at home.
The Stillhouse boasts the widest variety of single malt Scotch whiskey in the Portland area. When entering the pub, patrons are treated to a Scottish inspired atmosphere with hardwood furnishings, a lower level with space used for live music. For adults there is a designated 21 and over upper level with darts, televisions, a large bar and a couple couches. An outdoor patio overlooks Willamette Falls with picnic benches for outside dining and a cannon decorating the cliff’s edge.
Happy Hour at the Stillhouse is Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. The happy hour menu includes some tasty grub for $5: shrimp cocktail, Scottish hog wings, deep fried mushrooms or coconut prawns. Haggis balls or banger sliders are $4. Mac and cheese or black and tan onion rings are $3.
The Stillhouse features live music on Thursday and Sunday nights. The staff are wonderfully polite and helpful. The bar is stocked with many spirits other than whiskey and make an excellent palette for a drink artist’s brush.
There are marvelously fun times to be had at the Stillhouse, some of them are Timbers game broadcasts, St. Patrick’s Day (a vastly large event), Robert Burns nights, whiskey tastings and Ardbeg day.
After a pleasing meal, one of the best treats from the Stillhouse is the chocolate fudge brownie; this chocolatey goodness has few rivals.
